Great Music on the Morristown Green, a ministry of Morristown United Methodist Church, will host the renowned Morehouse College Glee Club for a concert on Monday, March 20 at 7pm at the church.
The all-male Glee Club was formed at Atlanta’s historically black Morehouse College in 1911. They have performed around the world and in every corner of the United States, as well as at President Jimmy Carter’s inauguration and at Martin Luther King Jr.’s funeral. Reverend King was an alumnus of Morehouse College and sang in the Glee Club as an undergraduate.
The Morehouse Glee Club has performed with such music legends as “The Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin, Grammy Award-winning soprano Jessye Norman, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, and recording artists Take 6. They participated with Stevie Wonder, Gloria Estefan, and Trisha Yearwood in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Atlanta Olympic Games. The Glee Club performed the National Anthem with Natalie Cole for Super Bowl XXVIII and was featured in an American Family Insurance commercial with Grammy-winner Jennifer Hudson. The group has made numerous recordings, and is featured on the soundtracks of School Daze, Miracle at St. Anna, and Red Hook Summer, films directed by Morehouse alumnus Spike Lee. Frequent collaborators with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Morehouse Glee Club recently joined both the Charlotte and Tallahassee Symphony Orchestras in performances of Joel Thompson’s powerful Seven Last Words of the Unarmed.
Morristown United Methodist Church is located at 50 S. Park Place in Morristown, NJ.
