Ministry Updates

Annual Charge Conference

Monday is our Annual Charge Conference! We’ll gather in person at 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall, with our District Superintendent, Rev. Eunice Vega Pérez, presiding.

Each year, Charge Conference is a sacred time to celebrate the ministry behind us and to prayerfully plan for the year ahead. It’s both a time of celebration and discernment, and your presence matters.

We’ll be reviewing and voting on these items at the meeting:
· A new Safe Sanctuary Policy
· The 2026 Leadership Slate
· The Pastor’s Report and Membership Report
· The Clergy Compensation Sheet
· Call Statements from our two ministry candidates

We look forward to how God will use this new model to help us live more deeply into our mission here at Morristown UMC.

We are collecting turkeys, hams and assorted items for holiday meals on Sunday, October 26. See the full list of items on our website. We have plenty of freezer room, so you can bring your turkeys in at your convenience!

United Women in Faith Meeting – October 19

United Women in Faith’s next meeting is October 19. We will gather directly after church, so grab a bagel and coffee/tea and meet us in the Wesley Room. We would like your feedback on our August Family Promise Back-to-School Bash, and your input as how we might continue our mission work with FP. Also, bring your ideas for any other mission work.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and continuing to embrace and embody our motto – Love in Action!

United Women in Faith Book Club

Please join us for October UWF book club meeting on Tuesday, October 28 at 7pm in the Youth Lounge. Kristin Moran will lead the discussion on Angels in My Hair-The True Story of a Modern-Day Irish Mystic by Lorna Bryne. This autobiographical book describes the author’s encounters with spiritual beings, angels, and God throughout her life. As always you are welcome to attend whether or not you have completed your reading of the book.

EarthAware Documentary

November 2 @ 11:45am

EarthAware will screen “AMERICAN RIVER’ a documentary film that follows Mary Bruno and guide Carl Alderson on a 4-day, 80-mile adventure down the Passaic, from its pristine source in a wildlife refuge to its toxic mouth in Newark Bay. The river’s extraordinary history, geology and ecology are revealed as the kayakers navigate challenges, travel through urban landscapes and head towards the industrial disaster that poisoned the Passaic for the past 60 years. Along the way, the filmmakers engage residents, historians and advocates in candid conversations that bring insight, urgency and a sense of wonder to the story. The Passaic is an archetype for thousands of rivers across America facing similar reckonings. From Paradise to Superfund, the film is a unique blend of personal memoir, adventure, history and science. It runs about 90 minutes. Please bring a plant-based meal to share as we watch the movie.

New Adult Sunday School Topic

For most Christians, Mark’s Gospel is overshadowed by those of Matthew, Luke, and John.  New Testament scholars, however, are endlessly fascinated by Mark, both because it was the earliest Gospel and the primary source for Matthew and Luke, and because it rivals John’s Gospel in theological profundity.

Dr. Stephen Moore, Professor of New Testament at Drew Theological School, will argue, indeed, that Mark’s is the Gospel most adequate for a fully adult Christian faith.  All are welcome – no preparation to participate.

Meets in the Wesley Room at 9:15am Sunday morning

Morristown Trick or Treat

We will be giving out candy to trick or treaters in Morristown on Halloween. We need donations of bags of candy to give out and people to hand out candy! Bring candy to the church office by October 26 and let Andrew Cattano know if you can help give out candy!
