Advent Begins Next Sunday
How does a weary world rejoice? That’s what we’ll explore together this Advent as we following the stories of Elizabeth & Zechariah, Mary & Elizabeth, Mary & Joseph through preaching, liturgy, art, music, and fellowship. Advent at MUMC starts NEXT SUNDAY, November 26!
UMCOR Cleaning Kits
As a way to support UMCOR in its disaster relief programs we are taking on the task of assembling 15 “Cleaning Kits”. These are kits that UMCOR distributes to victims in natural disasters, for example victims of Hurricane Ian. They have a very specific list of items to go into each bucket.
To sign-up to donate specific items, we have setup a SignUpGenius form.
Alternately, you can make a financial contribution to help us purchase the supplies. Each completely assembled kit costs about $75. Checks can be made out to Morristown UMC, with “UMCOR Buckets” in the memo line. You can also donate online via our website. Questions? Want more information? Please contact Vince Cattano at vcattano@gmail.com.
Sawdust Gang Planning Meeting
MUMC’s Sawdust Gang focuses on hands-on ways to help people in our community and beyond. We work to make a tangible difference in the lives of all people through a variety of groups and approaches. Sometimes that looks like supporting established groups like ASP, UMCOR, Habitat for Humanity; sometimes it’s helping our friends move! Feel like you’re called to this type of “get your hands dirty” kind of ministry? There will be a planning meeting on November 28 at 7pm in Fellowship Hall. Bring your voice and your ideas! Kristi Miller (klmidboemiller@gmail.com) is the coordinator for this ministry.
Habitat for Humanity
Get ready for another Habitat for Humanity Build with your friends from Morristown UMC! We’ve got December 2 reserved for our team for an 8:30am start in Randolph! Experience not necessary – we’ll help you with everything you need – we just need you! Email Tom Roberts to let us know you’re in! (tomtom.roberts@comcast.net)
United Women in Faith Book Club
Our monthly book club is reading The Color Purple for our discussion on November 28. We’ll gather in the Youth Lounge at 7pm.
United Women Christmas Gathering
Our annual Christmas Gathering is Saturday, December 2 from 10:30am – 12:30pm in Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcome (all genders, not just women!) to kick off the Christmas season with the joy of each other’s company! Bring a $10 “white elephant” gift to exchange, pick up your Angel Tree Ornament & this year’s Reverse Advent Calendar and enjoy a devotional and lunch with us. Please RSVP to Kristin Moran by November 27 so we can prepare lunch!
2024 Annual Giving Campaign
Invitations to share your 2024 Giving Intention for our operating budget for 2024 were mailed this week. We’ve included a narrative budget as well as a giving intention form. Extra copies of the narrative budget package are available at the Welcome Desk, and on our website. Once you’ve discerned how you will give to MUMC in 2024, please complete the Giving Intention form and return it to the church office. You can place it in the offering plate, mail it, or drop it off. On Sunday, December 10, the Third Sunday of Advent, we’ll bless these Giving Intentions during worship.
One more thing – we always appreciate “unplanned donations” but we really appreciate receiving thecompleted Giving Intention forms because it will help us properly plan our ministries in 2024. Thank you for your continued faithful generosity for our church!
Dinner Church
No dinner church, confirmation or adult gathering this Wednesday, November 22. We’ll get together again on November 29.
United Methodist Student Day
United Methodist Student Day, a designated Special Sunday. We will take up a second offering next Sunday to support financial aid awarded to United Methodist students by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. Thank you for your generosity!
Sunday Morning Advent Study for Adults
Jack Scharf and Regina Heater will facilitate this four-week Advent study focusing on the experiences of four sets of often overlooked characters in the Nativity story. In An Unlikely Advent, Rachel Billups guides readers through the themes of hope, love, joy, and peace by sharing the stories of Elizabeth and Zechariah, Herod, the Magi, and the shepherds. What can each of these unexpected characters teach us about living faithfully on the journey to Christmas? Let’s explore together starting November 26! We meet at 9am in the Wesley Room on Sunday mornings.
