Rediscovering Joy as a Spiritual Practice

The world can be hard. Every day we carry responsibilities, worries, griefs, and challenges. We work hard. We care deeply. We strive to make a difference. As followers of Jesus, we are called to love our neighbors, seek justice, and serve others faithfully. But we are not called to let the world’s burdens have the final word.

Throughout July, Morristown United Methodist Church invites you to join us for Season of Play, a four-week worship series exploring the surprising truth that joy, delight, wonder, laughter, creativity, and play are holy gifts from God. Jesus attended weddings. He welcomed children. He shared meals with friends. Scripture reminds us that God rejoices over us with singing, fills our mouths with laughter, and delights in God’s beloved children.

Play is not a distraction from discipleship—it helps sustain us for it. Each Sunday we’ll explore how joy can become a spiritual practice that renews our hearts, strengthens our relationships, and reminds us of God’s abundant love. Let’s Play Together!

Worship is only part of the adventure. Throughout the month of July you’re invited to join us for fun, intergenerational outings (except for AX THROWING) as we put our faith into practice by spending time together, laughing together, and building community. (And in August we have more fun planned too!)

Saturday, July 11 • 4:00–6:00 PM — Family Fun Day Carnival Hosted at MUMC

Bring the whole family for an afternoon of carnival-themed games, prizes, snacks, cotton candy, Kona Ice, laughter, and plenty of fun! RSVP to so we have enough fun for everyone!

Friday, July 17 • 7:00 PM — Adults’ Axe Throwing Night (13+)

Stumpy’s Hatchet House – Fairfield, NJ. Ready to try something new? Join us for an evening of fun, laughter, and a little friendly competition. Please RSVP to Pastor Luana by email so we know how many lanes to reserve.

Sunday, July 19 • 1:00–3:00 PM — Roller Skating

Florham Park Roller Rink. Join us for an afternoon of skating and fellowship! Cost: $10 admission + $6 skate rental.

Sunday, July 26 • 12:00 PM — AMC Theatre, Rockaway, NJ
