Holy Week & Easter at Morristown UMC
We invite you to journey with us through Holy Week as we remember, reflect, and celebrate the story at the heart of our faith – love that endures, justice that confronts, and resurrection that brings new life.
Palm Sunday
Sunday, March 29 | 10:30 AM Worship
Wave your palm branches high as we enter Jerusalem with Jesus and begin this sacred week together—hopeful, expectant, and ready to follow where love leads.
Palm Sunday Evening Concert
Duruflé Requiem
Sunday, March 29 | 5:00–6:00 PM
📍 St. Peter’s Episcopal Church (handicap accessible)
The combined choirs of Morristown United Methodist Church and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will present Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem—a deeply moving nine-movement work that blends ancient Gregorian chant with rich, modern harmonies. Featuring soloists, mixed choir, and organ accompaniment, this sacred concert offers space for reflection, beauty, and prayer as we enter Holy Week.
Maundy Thursday – Breaking the Bread
Thursday, April 3 | 6:00–7:00 PM
“Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, meaning mandate—referring to Jesus’ commandment to love one another as he has loved us.
On this holy night, we live into that commandment in a simple, sacred way—by breaking bread and sharing a meal together. As we gather around the table, we remember Jesus’ final night with his disciples and the love he poured out for them, and for us.
A simple dinner of soup and bread will be provided. Optional foot washing will be available as a sign of humility, service, and Christ-like love.
If you would like to make soup or bake bread, please contact Kristin Moran at 201-213-7779.
Good Friday Worship
Friday | 7:00 PM
On Good Friday, we gather at the foot of the cross. We come not to rush past the pain, but to face it—to remember the suffering of Christ and the suffering still present in our world.
Together, we lament, we pray, and we bear witness to a love that does not turn away from injustice, cruelty, or grief—but meets it with mercy and courage.
🌅 Easter Sunday – Resurrection Celebration
Sunrise Service with Communion
6:30 AM | Joshua’s Garden
As the sun rises, we gather in the garden to proclaim what once felt impossible—life has the final word. In the quiet beauty of the morning, we share Holy Communion and celebrate the first light of resurrection.
Festival Worship with Brass & Communion
10:30 AM | Sanctuary
Then we gather again in full voice and joyful celebration!
