Announcements Week of December 2, 2022

Here’s the news for this coming week at Morristown UMC:

Our Story: Morristown United Methodist Church
A Story of God’s  Grace, Love, and Redemption
The Story of Morristown United Methodist Church is more than 195 years old. It contains the stories of thousands of people in the Morristown area who have come in its doors – and thousands more who have been influenced by those people. Like a great bestseller, it has smiles, tears, laughter, hope,  and at one point, rising again from literal ashes.  It’s a story of God’s Grace, Love, and Redemption.

You are in this Story, and we are grateful for the ways you contribute to our Story with your time, talent, and treasure. Next Sunday, December 11, we will hear the story of Mary’s Magnificat – a poem-song that reminds us of all that Jesus was meant to be and do in the world. Surrounded by this text, we’ll take the opportunity to dedicate your Giving Intentions for 2023, a sign of how Morristown UMC continues to tell its Story, a story that is directly linked to the Magnificat… a Story of God’s Grace, Love and Redemption.

We are happy to inform you that we will have bagels served during coffee hour today!
We are also introducing Fellowship Blend coffee, a fair trade brew from Equal Exchange, an UMCOR partner company.

Today after Worship
Join Joo Ahn Kim each Sunday of Advent during Fellowship Hour to discuss the Advent devotional From Generation to Generation. You can find Joo Ahn in the Wesley Room  instead of the Fellowship Hall, for easier conversation. Booklets still available. This is a great opportunity to both support Joo Ahn in her supervised placement at Morristown UMC and to get to know her.

Not a Silent Night by Adam Hamilton Study
This year, experience Advent and Christmas with the one who knew Jesus more intimately than anyone else—his mother, Mary. Imagine the pain she felt at the crucifixion, her pride as Jesus’ ministry grew, and her unrestrained joy when she looked into his tiny face that fateful night in the stable. Adam Hamilton helps you witness the life of Jesus from Mary’s unique perspective, starting at the very end and traveling back in time to the very beginning—the night of Christ’s birth. Led by Jack Scharf, meets at 9am in the Wesley Room Sundays, December 4, 11 and 18.

Angel Cards Available Now
UWF has once again organized the Angel Tree gift-giving opportunity. The Angel Cards are available on the Christmas tree in Fellowship Hall. All gifts are due back at the church no later than Sunday, December 18 at noon. Volunteers to help sort the gifts on the 18th are always appreciated. For more information, please email coordinator Jane Rehmke at:

Order Forms and Cards Available Now through December 18
For over 30 years, Morristown UMC has offered ADVENTure in Mission, an opportunity to transform gift giving into a way to support the work of Christ in the world. Our options support both local and international mission ministries. Look for the table in Fellowship Hall with the brochure of gift options suitable for a range of budgets and interests. We even provide a card you can give to the recipient to acknowledge the gift! Let the gift of giving help you celebrate a spirit-satisfying Christmas!

Order deadline December 15
Members and friends of our congregation may honor a loved one by placing a poinsettia on the altar for Christmas Eve. The cost is $15.00 per plant.  Order forms are available at the Welcome Table. You may also place orders through our website. The deadline for ordering is December 15.

Next Sunday, December 11, we will dedicate our 2023 Giving Intentions. Please be sure to return yours to the church office within the next week or bring it to church next Sunday so we may include it in our blessing.

Our December challenge to support the Interfaith Food Pantry Network is a Reverse Advent Calendar. Each day from December 1 to 24, add an item from our list into a bag, then bring your donations to church on Christmas Eve (or before, if that’s easier for you!) We’ve uploaded the Reverse Advent Calendar list to our website so you can copy it to your device for reference when shopping.

Next Sunday, December 11
Next Sunday after worship service we have a lot of fun plans that involve caroling. All are welcome to join their voices with the choir!
Immediately after worship, we will video record 5 carols for our Christmas Day online worship service. Then we’ll have a light lunch to energize us to go out onto the Green and do some strolling carols.
JOIN US! Please RSVP to John Liepold at so we have enough soup, goodies, and music for everyone.

Thursday, December 15 at 12pm
Join us as we welcome our long-time friends,
The Christmas Singers, to celebrate the season!
This fantastic ensemble will bring us a program designed to inspire us to both contemplate and find joy in the Christmas season. Free Admission!

Sunday, December 18 at 10:30am
Help us tell the story of Jesus’ birth with an intergenerational Christmas pageant!
