Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity – Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Our mission is to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. As a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry that builds with people in need regardless of race or religion, we welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds. We have more than 1,400 local affiliates in the United States and more than 70 national organizations around the world. Together, we have helped 6.8 million people improve their living conditions since our founding in Americus, Georgia in 1976. In 1984 former President Jimmy Carter invited the Rev. Dr. Jim White, pastor of MUMC, to a work group in NYC to help renovate a six-story building with 19 families in need of decent, affordable shelter. Rev. White then came back and helped organize the Morris Habitat affiliate, which was incorporated in Oct 1985. Since then, MUMC has been an continuing participant in Morris Habitat’s mission to bring affordable housing to our area. Over the next 4 years, Morris Habitat’s target goal is to build, rehab and repair at least 200 homes!
