Ms. Sarah A Michal
Sarah A Michal is Director of Music Ministries at Morristown United Methodist Church, where she conducts the graded choir program and handbell choir, and is the artistic director of two concert series (Music at Noon and Abendmusik), which have both received block grants from the New Jersey Arts Council and won the Outstanding Arts Organization Award.
She is also the Artistic Director of the New Jersey Gay Men’s Chorus.
Michal holds an M.M. in Sacred Music from Westminster Choir College and a B.A. in Music Education from Fresno Pacific University. As a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, she has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. An accomplished choral scholar, she was a member of the critically-acclaimed Westminster Choir and the award-winning early-music ensemble Westminster Kantorei. She sang with the Philadelphia Orchestra in the inaugural season of the newly-formed Philadelphia Symphonic Choir. She has worked closely with Dr. Joe Miller, Dr. Amanda Quist, Dr. Steve Pilkington, Dr. Roy Klassen, and Sir Simon Carrington, and was a Fellow of the 2015 Yale School of Music Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. She has a particular penchant for Baroque music and new compositions, and recently sang in the Philadelphia, PA, and Providence, RI, performances of the world tour of The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses.
Originally from beautiful Central California, Michal taught the Schola Christiana Children’s Choirs in Kingsburg, CA, and is the former Celebration Singers Youth Choirs Director, a community choral organization in Cranford, NJ. She has served as Director of Music at Christ Lutheran Church in Reedley, CA; First United Methodist Church in Ontario, CA; and First United Methodist Church in Somerville, NJ. She currently lives in Madison, NJ, with her husband, Matt, and their cat, Alexander Hamilton.
